BIOGRAPHY

Al Stevens was invited to become a staff caller on Sting Records, by Stefan and Ingvar, soon after the company was formed in 1986. He played a very active role during the early years of the company and made himself available for all the Sting Festivals during that period.

Al felt that he had to step-down as a staff caller, in 1992, in order to explore opportunities with other Record companies who were keen to use his distinctive vocal and choreographic talents. Al needed to maintain a high profile, as a caller and Sting Records needed to "rest" while it's owners entered a very critical phase in their personal education. Al remains a very good friend to Sting and Snow and continues to support our activities, whenever he can.

• Began dancing in 1958 and calling shortly thereafter.
• I've called a square dance in every state in the USA and in 26 foreign countries.
• Currently a staff caller with C-Bar-C / 7 C's Records. I was also a staff caller with the Windsor, Dance Ranch, CW, and Sting labels as well. Called on the "Sets In Order Sound Documentary" for the American Square Dance Society.
• Became an Accredited CALLERLAB member in 1976 and currently serve on the Board of Governors. I am currently the Chairman of the Overseas Advisory Group. I am also active on the Caller Training, Caller Education, Mainstream, and Plus committees as well.
• I became a "Full-Time Caller" in 1983, the first American full-time caller in Europe.
• I have served on the Board of the European Callers And Teachers Association for 8 years, serving as Vice President, Training Director, and President.
• By years end, I will have taught over 100 Full Curriculum Callers Schools since 1983. In 1988 I became a CALLERLAB Accredited Caller Coach, the first to become accredited outside of North America.
• I have averaged over 7.3 dances to prepare/call for per week since 1984. I currently have a home program in 4 clubs, covering the Mainstream and Plus programs.
• I am the editor/publisher of "Notes for European Callers", a monthly callers note service since 1984.
• Recipient of CALLERLAB's Milestone Award...the highest award given by CALLERLAB
• As at 2007 - 14 consecutive years on the Board Of Governor's of CALLERLAB
• Goals/Aims: to continue exerting influence and experience in an effort to watch the square dance program grow bigger and more popular than it is now.
