Barry Wonson has been active in the Australian Square Dance scene for 40 years. He began dancing in 1967 and started calling in 1968; Barry met his future wife
Sue at a National Convention in Adelaide 1974 and they married later that same year.
Barry has been a full time caller since 1984. He calls and teaches MS thru C1 for Red Barons Square Dance Clubs in Sydney and Wollongong; he also cues and
teaches rounds for a separate Round Dance club.
In addition to his regular home programme, Barry has been a featured caller at festivals, weekends, etc all over Australia and New Zealand, as well as in USA,
Canada, UK, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic, Holland and Austria.
From 1977-1988 Barry published a very popular and extremely successful note service; many callers still use this as reference source. He is a member of the
ACF (Australian Caller's Federation) Board and is the current President of the New South Wales Callers Association.
Outside of Square and Round Dancing his interests include movies, music and collecting; if you ever stay with the Wonsons, you will see Barry has an outstanding
collection of books, films and other collectible items - a real "Aladdin's Cave". Other outside activities have included a stint as President of school P & C
Association for 7 years, together with involvement in various other community groups.
Barry and Sue have two beautiful daughters Amerie (18) and Alessa (12).
