Ron started Square Dancing in London in 1962 when he became a member of the "Up To The Centre" Square Dance club, in Burnt Oak, Edgware, where Chris Vear was
the regular club caller. Ron started calling in 1965 and with a little help and encouragement from Chris, very soon began displaying his formidable talents as
a caller.
When Chris Vear moved to Germany, Ron took over as the caller at "Up To The Centre" and soon after became the club caller at Circle and Swing, in East London.
During this period, Ron became established as a top caller both in the U.K. and overseas. He called for Square Dance clubs in France, Belgium, Holland, Italy
and Germany and was featured at several European Jamborees and Round-Ups.
In 1978, as a consequence of work obligations, Ron moved to Basingstoke. Sadly, he was now too far away to continue calling for his London clubs but was very
quickly "snatched-up" to call for a local Basingstoke group: the "Pairs 'n' Squares". Over the next few years he helped that club grow and develop into one of
the strongest groups in the Country!
Also in 1978, Ron helped to revive the Alpine Hoedown Square Dance Week, held at Schnaitsee in Bavaria, as a member of the regular staff of the event. This
event proved to be so successful that it attracted groups from all over Europe (including Great Britain), as well as becoming a favourite for dancers from
Saudi Arabia!
In later years Ron worked regularly with Paul Bristow. Paul and Ron were the staff callers at the "Country Magic Weekend", in Humberside U.K., which ran for
13 years. Paul and Ron put together a two-man show that has been seen all over the U.K. and (on occasions) in Europe.
In 2008 Ron, together with his youngest daughter Ria, joined Paul on his trip to Nashville where they both provided valuable assistance at the recording
session.
Ron's personal life is very busy, he is married to Rosemary (who is the sister of Paul Bristow's wife, Hazel), he has two daughters Rebecca and Ria and has four
grand-children with whom he spends a great deal of his time!
To date Ron has made two guest appearances on Sting, the first in 2002 and most recent in 2009, where he recorded a vocal together with his daughter, Ria,
