In 1980, when I was 16 years old, I had my first big teenage love. The only time I could meet her without parental guidance, was during the Square-Dance-class.
To make a long story short, she left and I was hooked, hooked on to Square-Dancing.
It didn't take very long until I got interested in how the caller managed to move the dancers around in a big mess and then, all-of-a-sudden, bring them back
to their starting formation. Our clubcaller at this time, Jerry Lynn, and his wonderful wife Rita (now living in Killeen/Texas) "adopted" me and taught me a
lot about the dos and don'ts in Square-Dance-calling. I soon came to find out, that there are some words you don't say through a microphone, even if you say
them in German. But calling was (and of course still is) so much fun, that I decided get more serious with it.
In 1983 a new club formed in the Stuttgart area, the "Stuttgarter Rebläuse". I became their first clubcaller and stayed with the club until 1993. Since 1997
up to today I'm their clubcaller again. Also I worked as a clubcaller for local area clubs, these were: Unicorn Promenaders, Coconuts, Patter Ghosts, Renegades,
Tough Ones.
What still gets me most of all in Square-Dancing, is the chance to get to know new friends all the time. Dancers all understand the caller, even if the caller
may not speak the National language. So far, besides Germany, I had the chance to call in Sweden (thanks to my buddy Anders Blom), Italy (Pizza Poni's), France
(Funny Fishs - I'll be back, thanks for the support Tom), Czech Republic (M-Separates, what a jamboree), Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria,
Lichtenstein, Ireland and of course in the USA (at least in Texas).
For my future I'm looking forward to see many more smiling faces out on the dance floor and I look forward to share the stage with and dance to such wonderful
fellow callers like Astrid, Stefan, Anders, Tim, Paul, Thorsten, Carsten, Kenny, Niels, Tom, Jerry, Joachim, Jason, Thomas and many, many more.
