STING AND SNOW PRODUCTIONS - AUGUST 2008 NEWS-LETTER

August is upon us and I am close to "packing my case" for our annual trip to Nashville. We have another great selection of tunes that have been chosen by our staff callers and - all I have to do is - find the best way to "convert" them into Square Dance tunes. I promise that I will do my best…

… and now for some sad news.

On 9th July Sting and Snow records lost a good friend. In fact the full extent of the "loss" will be felt in many areas of the world where Square Dancing takes place. It was on this date that Bengt "Bula" Ericsson, very sadly passed away.

Bula, as he was known to all his friends, was one of the cornerstones of the Square Dance activity in Sweden.

I first met him in Sweden, in 1984 and I very soon came to think of him as a close personal friend. Prior to Square Dancing, Bula was involved with the sound at major music events in Sweden and he brought this knowledge to the new activity (as it was at that time). Very soon after the commencement of Sting and Snow Records, Bula became an assistant producer, by virtue of the fact that he knew more than most of the rest of us, it would be true to say that - in the early days - he was the "technical" expert upon whom we heavily relied.

Bula pursued his interests as a Square Dance caller, with considerable success and in early 2000 founded his own record label "Marble", which produced many fine pieces of music.

Earlier, this year, Bula received a special award from the Swedish Square Dance association SAASDC - in recognition of his achievements in helping Square Dancing to flourish and grow in Sweden.

I am very sorry that Bula has gone, he will be missed by many but he will never be forgotten by any of those that knew him.
