STING AND SNOW PRODUCTIONS - MARCH 2010 NEWS-LETTER

It is the month of March, which historically, at the time of the Vernal Equinox (i.e. the start of the season of Spring) heralded the start of the New Year. The New Year start was changed to January 1st by the Romans (in 46BC), although this idea was abolished by most of the world in the Middle Ages. After which the New Year occurred at different times in different places (a much better idea?). However, in 1582 1st January was re-instated as the start of the New Year as part of the adoption of the Gregorian calendar by the Pope. Although it should be noted that the 1st January New-Year-start was not re-instated in the British Empire (including the American colonies) until 1752! All of the above makes it very difficult to accurately establish the year in which many historical figures were born - anyone born in January February or part of March, could be listed as being born in two different years. I am not sure that any of this is really relevant but it is "quite interesting"…

Curiously, the financial New Year still starts on 1st April - in many parts of the world - I wonder why? It does mean that I will soon begin assembling my financial accounts for the year of 2009/2010 and will need to make decisions for the future based upon these findings. Let's hope that a moment of "enlightenment" occurs and I find the way forward… Who knows?

The good news is that many of you have contacted me with your thoughts about how we should continue and the positive comments I have received are really inspiring. So I can tell you that I am planning a major change to our operation that will allow a lot more of you to be involved in what we do - it will be a "make-or-break" situation but we have nothing to lose, so it has to be worth trying! More news on that as soon as I can - just one or two more things to investigate…
