STING AND SNOW PRODUCTIONS - OCTOBER 2009 NEWS-LETTER

October is upon us and the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting darker and the temperatures are falling as we move into the fourth quarter of 2009. Of course, if you are living in the Southern Hemisphere, most of the above will not apply… Strange how our world seems to be filled with contradictions!

In view of the current problems that we are facing, concerning future production, I would like to tell you a little about my "list of tunes".

It probably won't come as any surprise, to those of you that regularly read these News-Letters, to learn that I have a wish-list of tunes that I wish to be recorded. I quite regularly hear tunes that I like and wonder if they could (possibly) be made-over as Square Dance recordings and - from time-to-time - we receive suggestions from callers (and occasionally from dancers) of songs that they would like us to record. After a little investigation (to see if a licence can be obtained) and a little basic pre-production work (to see how the tune might be re-recorded as a Square Dance), many of these tunes are added to the list.

These then have to be sorted in to the sequence in which they might be recorded; it is never possible to do them all so some selection and prioritisation has to occur. Over the years, many of the tunes on the list have been recorded and have proved to be successful (and popular) in their Square Dance format. However, the list is not exhausted yet and probably never will be.

My greatest hope now is that the opportunity might still be there for the next handful of songs on my list to be produced at some point in the future; perhaps in 2010 - only time will tell… Hopefully, we shall be able to find a way to continue producing music. So - on the basis of that assumption - (as I have said before), if you have any songs that I could add to the "list of tunes", please let me know, we can never have too many "ideas"!

I am pleased to announce that there is another new biography on the "Guest Caller" drop-down above, which contains the details of Ron Hepden, one of the most influential callers in the U.K. When you have a moment, please check Ron's details; you will find Ron as one of the voices on this month's release of "Daddy Sang Bass" - the other voice belongs to Ron's youngest daughter, Ria, who also happens to be my God-daughter!
